Allocators looking to achieve a modest 2-5% exposure to digital assets are often dissuaded by the realization that it requires an outsized 20% of their time just to research investment options. This isn’t due to lack of interest anymore, but because the barriers to entry are simply too high.
This gap has been evident to me throughout my career. I saw it first when I analyzed the asset class through an equities lens in 2014, then as a crypto fund-of-funds investor diligencing 400+ funds, and later as a portfolio manager overseeing a liquid venture book. Across these roles, it became clear: the digital asset space lacked approachable tools necessary to connect allocators to liquid funds efficiently.
Eventually, I left to focus on building solutions and start Crypto Insights Group to create purpose-built solutions that bridge the gap between allocators and the opportunities within digital assets.
Today, we’re thrilled to launch The Portal, a one stop shop for allocators to identify, diligence, and monitor the emerging asset class.
Vision and Purpose
Our path started back in early 2024, launching a research product for liquid thesis-driven funds, creating the first institutional buyside consensus. Each month, we worked with funds to identify key questions and distilled their insights into a comprehensive report. Today, that network has grown to 100+ funds, and our report has become the go-to source for buyside insights.
In our discussions, we kept hearing the same thing: funds were struggling to access allocators, and allocators often felt lost as they entered the digital asset space. Without proper conduits, allocators relied on word-of-mouth connections to meet liquid funds. This frequently led to mismatches, as the funds they were introduced to didn’t align with their specific investment mandates.
The Portal was born out of countless conversations with allocators who expressed a need for a solution that understands their world.
